FREE events to enjoy with the kids this weekend (Austin Area)


BookPeople: Saturday 2/4 @11:30AM. Join us for a wonderfully artistic storytime celebrating children’s book author and poet, Ezra Jack Keats. We’ll not only be reading the classic story The Snowy Day and other stories, but also making paper snowflakes! A perfect storytime celebrating the weather and the beginning of Black History Month.

Whole Foods:

    • Saturday 2/4, Annual Chili Cook-Off 12 – 3:00pm Free. Join us for our annual Chili Cook-off just in time for the “Big Game”. The teams are making their chili and are ready for you to cast the winning vote.
    • Sunday 2/5, 12-3pm. Everyone loves pizza! Join the Kid’s Club gang as we read an awesome book about pizza and make our very own personal pizzas.

Ruta Maya: Join us Sunday 2/5 at 10:30 AM for a FREE show! Shows are free with cafe purchase of $3.00 or more, but tips for performers are very much appreciated.

Annual Lego Building ContestLets have a Lego contest! It’ll be good for Kaleidoscope Toys, good for the kids and good for mom and dad who could really use a project for the kids right about now. Even better is it’s a project that truly forbids parents from participating. We will taking entries on Saturday, January 7th thru February 4th. Voting will continue through Feb 10th. We will announce the winners on February 11th.

Chaparral Ice: FREE SKATING CLASSES – Try out a skating class! We offer free one-time, 30-minute introductory classes for beginners age 6 and up. 2/4 12pm. Students must fill out a free class registration card. Stop by the front desk before the class for your card, fill out the card, get your skates, and give the card to your instructor before class. Allow 20-30 minutes to sign up and get skates properly fitted. Dress Warmly!

Rodeo Austin:   Youth Western Art Show will be held on Saturday 2/4 at the Audi Dealership in North Austin located at 12971 Pond Springs Road. Admission is FREE to the public and all are invited to attend an afternoon of art-viewing.

Pan Am Recreational Center: Saturday 2/4 @ 1pm. Fly on by and learn how to make a kite for the 84th annual Zilker Kite Festival.  Children will have the opportunity to make multiple kites and then fly them in the park!  All materials are provided, ages 5 and up.
