FREE events to enjoy with the kids this weekend in Austin

Halloween Party at the TownLake Y – October 28th from 4-6pm. Free for all!  Wear your costume, bring your four legged friend, have fun with friends! 1100 West Cesar Chavez Street, Austin. 

Spooktacular at Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum – Get into the spirit of Halloween at the fourth annual Spooktacular! on Friday, October 28. Families can create creepy crafts, enjoy a Spooky Science Extravaganza with Girlstart, win prizes in a “terror-ific” trivia game, and collect take-home treats throughout the evening. At 7 p.m. experience the thrill of juggling, acrobatics, and stage magic with the Clan Tynker Family Circus on the Lone Star Plaza. Wear a costume and participate in the costume parade.Also, explore the Museum’s Exhibits with haunted history tales at 7:30, 8, and 8:30 p.m. This FREE event will be a “Spooktacular!” good time for the whole family.  1800 N. Congress Avenue, Austin.

Farmer Fred’s Fall Festival – Join the City of San Marcos Parks and Recreation for our annual Fall Event-Farmer Fred’s Harvest Fall Carnival. It will take place on Saturday, October 29, 2011 from 6:00-9:00 PM in San Marcos Plaza Park. All ages are welcome and admission is FREE! FREE activities include 35 carnival games with prizes & candy, an age-grouped Costume Contest, Hocus Pocus on the big screen and much more! The Barrel train ride, Jump Castle, the Haunted Hayride and concessions will all be available for a nominal fee.

Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Dance Party at Central Market – Saturday, October 29, 6:30 – 9:00 PM. Las Monas de San Antonio, a theater group from San Antonio will bring the giant Day of the Dead puppets, and Acadêmicos da Ópera (the Austin Samba School) will bring their Brazilian carnival style percussion ensemble along with the Day of the Dead dancers to create one of the most exciting, incredibly fun family event of the year at Central Market. Don’t miss the Dia de los Muertos parade in the park. DJ Trey Lopaz will be spinning all your Cumbia, Salsa, Son, and spooky soul tunes to keep the spirits lively. (For my Costa Rican friends: esto suena como como un carnaval con giganta y todo!)

Little Shop of Horrors– Come celebrate Halloween at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center! The 6th annual Goblins In The Garden event will take place on Sunday, October 30th, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be spooky fun activities on the grounds and gardens for all ages to enjoy. At 7:30 p.m., bring your candy, blankets and camping chairs to watch the Alamo Drafthouse’ Rolling Roadshow of “Little Shop of Horrors” in the meadow just outside the Visitors Gallery; entry after 7 p.m. to watch the movie is free or Goblins in the Garden attendees can stick around to participate.

Berry Cool Whitestone – Sunday, October 30 · 3:00pm – 5:00pm. Come Celebrate Halloween in Berry Cool style! FREE face painting for kids!They are also having a Pumpkin Decorating Contest From Now until Oct. 31st First place wins a $25 GC, Second place a $15 GC and third place a $10! There’s no age limit and you’ll get to have some great Froyo!
